Another day in Valdez, still the end of July, 2013

Today we will stay off the water, more or less.  Our first visit will be to the Maxine and Jesse Whitney Museum.  It was a real jewel.

This was the welcome sign to the museum.  I see the printing is hard to read so I put it below.  It is important on how this came to be.

This pretty well explains how it started.  Lot of folks, when they found there was to be a museum, donated what they had bought from her to add to the displays.

As you can see, most of the items were sold in her Gift Shop.
Ok, enough of the information of how, let's see what.

There are several boat models, extremely well done.  This is a skin boat made of real skin.

And dolls, like this Eskimo couple.

And taxidermy.  Some of them you expect to run off.

This is a red fox with a snow grouse

And clothing, such as these boots, and

this beaded shirt.

And, of course, the fur parkas.  Made of all different kinds of critters.

Here is two different views of a Artic Fox and it's prey, a Ptarmigan

As I said, very well done, but there are a lot of them here.

Of course we could not show you all the displays in the museum, but you get the idea.  It was worth the time we spent in there.  Besides we wanted to go out and check out a trail on Dock Park.
It was not long, and showed a few things around, but My Dear Bride loves to hike, so off we went.

Another view of the Sound and the Chugach Mountains.

Another tree vs Rock battle.

Another view of it

This is Duck FlatsOn the other side of the trees is Richardson Hiway.  There were Ducks, gulls and Eagles around here See the trail to the right.

Here we go hiking uphill again.  Note the Chugach mountains in the back.  We are not going that far.

From here you can still see the roads and some of the flat foundations of Old Valdez.  This was a bit of a zoom.

My Dear Bride caught me looking for birds or critters or whatever.  We were on the trail at the top, or near it.

It has gotten to be a long day again.  The days are still long so none of this dawn to dusk stuff.  Back to the RV and rest.  But here is a better look at the camping spot with two clean and shining vehicles and the hill behind it out of the fog.
See you tomorrow when we are going to backtrack in the Honda to see what we missed in the fog.
