Today's post, for May 24, was the ride thru the 'most beautiful drive in North America", the Icefield Parkway leading from Banff to Jasper National Parks. Yes, it probably was most beautiful--if we could have seen it. You guessed it. The rain and snow that has been with us the whole trip is still there. But at least we are not fighting the trucks, (they are not allowed) altho' with the RV it is not much of a fight. Cars just pass us like we are not there, but that's OK.
As you see, snow and foggy weather, hide the mountain peaks and glaciers! The beautiful views are out there somewhere, I suppose.
Frozen Bow Lake, headwaters of Bow river. |
While driving the "Most Beautiful"--which we saw very little of--'our Betty' (don't you have a name for your GPS?) told us the altitude. Isn't that exciting? This was the highest point.
All of a sudden, we see a sign & at a road pullout
Even on the "Most Beautiful" in the spring you will see this
Yep, construction in the Snow and Fog. In Canada All signs are written in French as well as English. |
Here we come to Athabasca Falls where the Athabasca River, (that started at the Athabasca Glacier and others, which we could not see in the snow and fog), forces its way through a narrow gap in the rocks. It was awesome.
Such a dark and gloomy day, this could have been a black and white photo and you could not tell the difference.
Another view of the Falls |
The is the view of the river past the falls. Like I said "Awesome" Now we continue on to our home for 3 nights at Whistler Campground in Jasper National Park.
When we first got there the sun was shining, later it started raining, as it has most of this trip
